The Fund for the Preservation of Maine's Maritime Heritage, which is managed by the Maine Community Foundation (MCF), is a field of interest fund that was established in September 2002. MCF is a pool of permanent, charitable funds, the income from which benefits Maine non-profit organizations and public agencies with 501(c)3 status.

The fund supports projects that preserve the maritime heritage of Maine through the documentation, study, and conservation of Maine's maritime archaeological and historical resources. Research supported by the fund contributes to our knowledge about the coastlines and marine environments of the past, subsistence and settlement strategies of prehistoric societies, fishing, maritime trade and transportation, naval warfare, and shipbuilding technology. The fund supports graduate and post-graduate research as well as publication of maritime historical and archaeological studies of the Gulf of Maine.
