In keeping with the IMH mission of informing and engaging the public about maritime heritage, the Maine chapter provides divers and researchers with the exciting experience of taking part in archaeological exploration, documentation, and historical research. Operating within the ethical parameters of professional archaeologists, volunteers assist in advancing our knowledge of maritime history and provide stewardship of Maine’s cultural heritage. We work closely with the Maine Historic Preservation Commission to ensure that archaeological information is of value to scholarship, science, and the public. From novice to expert, all are welcome to join and volunteer!
